Chlorine is often present in municipal water supplies, and although not unsafe, many prefer to keep the amount at much lower levels than often found. Carbon Units are very similar to Iron Removal Systems in design. The major difference is the materials used within to treat the water. Charcoal is used in this system to remove the cholorine from the water. Trihalomethanes, which are carcinogens, are often found when chlorine levels are high. This system will reduce the amount of chlorine, which will drastically reduce the trihalomethanes.
