How long has McLean Engineering been in business?
The company was incorporated in 1971. It established two patents for water filtration and has been installing and servicing systems for more than 35 years.

Isn’t most city water and well water good enough without installing a filtration system?
It all depends on how you define “good enough.” It is true that most communities meet Primary Drinking Water Standards. But water that meets those standards can still be loaded with impurities you can’t taste or smell. These impurities can be potentially harmful. Installing a McLean Engineering system can turn your water into water that meets much stricter standards.

My city water tests fine at the source. Why should I worry?
Inthe time thatwater leavesthe plant and arrives at your home, it can pick up substances that become a part of the water we receive. Sediment and odors can also join the mixture. A McLean Engineering system provides a highly effective barrier against
these pollutants.

How does a McLean system remove hardness?
Hardness is removed by a process called “ion exchange.” Hardness causing particles and debris are positively charged. The water runs through McLean’s resin system which has millions of negatively charged sites. As the water flows past these sites, rock, calcium, and magnesium attach to these sites and are “bumped off.”

Is activated carbon a safe method of filtration for drinking water?
Yes. Activated carbon filtration is recommended by the EPA for use in municipal water treatment plants.

Will my McLean system alter the pH of my water?
No. However, if your pH does need adjustment, your McLean representative can provide a suitable solution.

What if I move?
The system is easy to uninstall. If you move to a location that is within 50 miles of Richmond and you would like for us to move the system from your current address to your new home we can take care of that for you.

How does McLean compare with the other companies in the area?
McLean Engineering has been in business for close to 40 years. We have a dedicated, well-trained group of employees who have been with the company for years. We provide thorough service and are available on weekends for emergency calls. We have recently invested in a state of the art pump hoist and are now equipped to replace well pumps at a moments notice. So, should you wake up with no water, you can call us and we will be able to repair your well within hours. We are a full service water provider.

Do you provide service?
Service is highly recommended and we do provide all customers that are interested a thorough and comprehensive service call. We do not require any type of service contract, but will be clear that if you elect to not maintain your system it will not work properly. We recommend at least one maintenance call each year, but depending on water quality and usage, a number of customer have semi-annual service. Together with the customer we will determine based on your unique situation how often we need to complete a maintenance call.

Can you take over service for other company’s equipment?
Yes. Over the years, we have “inherited” many customers from other water filtration providers. We can not provide replacement parts for some systems. We could indentify what you need and have you order the parts. Once you receive them, we can install and complete the service. If no part is needed, we can easily complete service on most systems.
